Petrochemicals, which convert oil and gas into products such as plastics, are fundamental to modern societies. Chemists recognize their role in designing materials the adverse effects that these may have on environment, preventing sustainable development. Several methodological frameworks sustainability assessment approaches been developed evaluate resources used petrochemical sector terms of environmental costs. Still, there is a need systems costs deeply. A combination life cycle emergy accounting—to assess support for resource use—is applied this study PET production chain Europe.
